What Is Invisalign®?

Invisalign is the world’s most advanced clear aligner system, offering a modern, virtually invisible alternative to traditional metal braces. Instead of brackets and wires, Invisalign uses a series of custom-fabricated, clear plastic trays (aligners) made from a patented, BPA-free material called SmartTrack. These smooth, flexible aligners fit snugly over your teeth, applying gentle, continuous pressure to slowly move them into their ideal anatomical positions.

Benefits Of Clear Aligners

Clear aligner therapy has revolutionized orthodontics, providing incredible benefits for patients who want a straight smile without the hassle of metal hardware:

  • Virtually invisible: The clear plastic is highly discreet. Most people will not even notice you are wearing them during normal conversation.
  • Completely removable: Because you take the trays out to eat, there are absolutely zero dietary restrictions. You can still enjoy popcorn, apples, and sticky foods!
  • Effortless hygiene: You simply remove the aligners to brush and floss normally. There are no wires to thread floss under or brackets to clean around.
  • Superior comfort: The smooth plastic prevents the painful cuts, scrapes, and mouth sores often caused by sharp metal brackets.

Who Is A Candidate?

Invisalign is a fantastic option for both teenagers and adults. It is highly effective at treating a wide variety of orthodontic issues, including mild to moderate crowding, widely spaced teeth, overbites, underbites, and crossbites.

During your consultation, our doctor will perform a comprehensive evaluation of your teeth, airway, and jaw joints to ensure you are a perfect candidate. While clear aligners can fix most issues, patients with extremely severe bite misalignments may still require traditional braces for optimal, structural results.

The Treatment Process

Guided by our famously warm and gentle approach, starting your Invisalign journey is an exciting, entirely painless process.

1. Digital Scanning

We utilize our advanced technology to take a rapid, highly precise 3D digital scan of your teeth. This is infinitely more comfortable than traditional, gag-inducing impression putty.

2. Digital Treatment Planning

Using your 3D digital model, we map out the precise, staged movements required for your teeth. We can even show you a digital simulation of exactly what your final smile will look like before you commit!

3. Receiving Your Aligners

Once your custom aligners are milled and delivered to our office, you will come in for a quick fitting. We may also bond tiny, tooth-colored “attachments” to a few teeth to give the aligners extra grip for complex movements.

Wearing & Caring For Aligners

For Invisalign to work, you must be committed to the process. The golden rule of clear aligners is that they only work while they are in your mouth. You must wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours every single day, removing them only to eat, drink anything other than plain, cool water, and to brush your teeth.

Caring for them is simple: gently brush the inside and outside of your aligners with a soft-bristled toothbrush and mild, clear antibacterial soap. Never use hot water, as the heat can permanently warp the patented plastic, ruining the fit.

Tracking Your Progress

You will typically swap out your current aligner for the next one in the series every one to two weeks, as directed by our team. With each new set, your teeth will move slightly closer to their final destination. You will visit our Denton office every six to eight weeks so we can monitor your progress, ensure your bite is aligning correctly, and hand you your next batch of aligners.

Maintaining Your Results

The day you finish your last aligner is a cause for celebration! However, to protect your investment, you must wear a retainer.

It takes time for the jawbone to solidify around your teeth in their new positions. Without a retainer, your teeth will naturally try to shift backward (relapse). We will provide you with custom-fit retainers and a personalized wear schedule—typically full-time for a few months, followed by nighttime-only wear for life—ensuring your beautiful, balanced smile lasts forever.

Frequently Asked Questions

Invisalign does not cause sharp pain, but it is completely normal to experience some mild pressure or soreness for the first day or two after switching to a new tray. This is actually a great sign—it means the aligners are actively working to move your teeth! The discomfort is temporary and easily managed.

No. You must remove your aligners before drinking anything other than plain, cool water. Hot beverages like coffee or tea can warp the plastic, and dark liquids can easily seep under the trays, severely staining both the aligners and your teeth.

The timeline is entirely dependent on the complexity of your specific case. Minor cosmetic alignment can sometimes be completed in as little as six months, while comprehensive bite corrections generally take between 12 and 18 months. We will provide you with a highly accurate timeline during your digital planning phase.
